What you need to do to engage with open access
When considering where to publish check whether or not a publisher permits you to make your publication available in an open access manner. Your local repository staff may be able to help with this.
If your work is funded by an organisation that has an open access mandate ensure that you will be able to comply with this.
If appropriate, ensure that you keep a final version of your paper that is suitable for deposit in a repository.
Where appropriate, deposit your publication in a repository as soon as permitted – if you leave it until later you may forget to deposit. Many repositories have mechanisms for making publications available once a publisher’s embargo has expired, so you do not need to wait until this time to deposit.
